Good Morning My Confidants
How are you today? I seem to be doing well. I'm on the right side of the dirt, and that's always a good thing!
Heading to a dear friend's house this afternoon to get snaps put on Gay Bob's shirt and possibly jeans. I am so tempted to alter him the way I have some other dolls, but I find I just can't do it when they're vintage. They have happily survived this long the way they are and it feels almost heretical to change them.
Yes, I know they're mine, and I'm never going to get rid of them, but changing the meantime I'm telling them that they're not good enough the way they are. It's one thing to clean them up or wash their hair or something like that. But I'm hesitant even to touch up the paint of an old doll, for instance if it's a Barbie and her lipstick has mostly worn off.
What would I change with Gay Bob? Not much. But, for instance, for some reason his chain doesn't have a claw. Perfectly around his neck with no link to take the chain on or off. It seems to be made of copper, but it might not be. The danger is that sometimes metal from dolls from this time period turn the doll green. The chain on this doll hasn't done that so I have to assume it's not copper. If it hasn't affected Bob yet, it probably isn't going to. So that's good.
I'm not crazy about his big blue plastic earring, it doesn't seem to go with it. But I noticed through the years looking for this doll that they rarely have the earring. That makes him more complete. So why would I want to get rid of the earring? It's who he is.
The final change? LOL! I've said that Gay Bob has flocked hair. I've also said that he is anatomically correct. I think you would be a lark to give him flocked pubic hair! LOL! He just doesn't seem to be the kind of guy who gets into shaving his stuff.
So, I don't know what I'll do. He'll tell me.
I also want to pick up a few doll stands. I have quite a few, but they fit your standard doll. Especially those with the unrealistic wasp thin waste. But my Mimi doll does not have a wasp waist. She did not come with a stand. She is standing because I have her leaning up against another doll. She needs to stand.
And Gay Billy has a much bigger waist than my other dolls. Luckily, he stands on his own, but if he got bumped wrong he'd fall over and cause a domino effect. So, he needs a stand.
I have also broken my unpromised promise to the boys that I would not fill up the end table with dolls. I keep into two or three. But there has been so much magic happening with dolls over the past 2 months and people have been sending them to me and suddenly I have fifteen (!) standing next to me and there's not so much room for even a coffee cup. So I have to make the big boy decision and take most of them upstairs to my office. So which ones?
I think I'll mostly decide tomorrow. After I get the doll stands. That could really make a difference.
As I've been writing this I've been thinking about something. How blessed I am. That whether I should put pubic hair on Gay Bob and which dolls I should take upstairs and which ones I could leave by the couch are two of my burning questions. How nice. That I really have so little to worry about.
What a blessing. And one I'm not aware of. I'm appreciative. I'm so grateful. And this afternoon I'm having cocktails with a friend! I don't keep booze in the house anymore, and so it's a treat rather than a need. How awesome is that?
The front door is open, the wind chimes are serenading me, and a puppy is on the back of the couch by my shoulder.
What a blessing.
Today I wish all the blessings of the world on you and I hope that you're happy and smiling. And if you're not, I hope something will happen today that will make that happen!
Blessings!
Namasté,
BG "Gentle Ben" Thomas
Enjoy the cocktails and togetherness!
